Bunkyo Morning Glory and Ground Cherry Fair, July 18 and 19
The colours of a traditional Japanese summer are coming to our neighbourhood.
On July 18 and 19, 2026, the old streets of Koishikawa in Bunkyo City — where D-RYOKAN stands — host the Bunkyo Morning Glory and Ground Cherry Fair (Asagao and Hozuki Ichi).
What to look for
- An exhibition of rare "henka asagao", the mutant morning glories bred since the Edo period
- The morning glory judging competition (hana-awase kai)
- Traditional performances and local food stalls
Wander between Dentsu-in Temple, where the morning glories are shown, Genkaku-ji Temple for the ground cherries, and the smaller venues in between. It is within walking distance of us, which makes it a good early-morning walk before the heat sets in.

Getting there
By train: take the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line from Myogadani Station to Korakuen Station, one stop. From there it is roughly a 10-minute walk.
By bus: take the Bunkyo City community bus "B-guru" on the Mejirodai / Kohinata route. Board at stop 28, "Orchid Specialty Shop Ranya (Harimazaka)", about 3 minutes on foot from us, and get off at stop 30, "Koishikawa 1-chome". The fair is 3 minutes from there.
