Rikugien, one of the two great gardens of Edo-period Tokyo, opens after dark this autumn. From Wednesday, November 25 to Sunday, December 6, 2026, the garden holds "Niwa-momiji no Rikugien," a special night viewing of its autumn colours.

What you will see

The garden closes at 5:00 p.m. as usual, then reopens at 6:00 p.m. Last entry is 7:30 p.m., and the gates close at 8:30 p.m.

The maple areas and the wider garden are lit up, photo spots are set up around the grounds, and two tea houses, Fukiage Chaya and Shinsentei, serve matcha with a Japanese sweet. Food stalls and kitchen cars open near the storehouse and around the former Ginkatei site.

New this year is projection mapping. Moving images are cast on the outer wall of the storehouse built in the Iwasaki family era, and on the bamboo grove.

Tickets

A special night-viewing ticket is required. The regular daytime ticket is not valid after dark. Advance tickets are 1,000 yen and are sold online only. Same-day tickets are 1,200 yen, sold online and at the main gate, where only cash is accepted. Visitors with a Japanese disability certificate pay 500 yen, and children of elementary school age and younger enter free.

Numbers are limited each night, and buying online lets you use the priority lane. As of October 2, 2026 the on-sale date had not been announced, so please check the garden's official page.

Getting there from D-RYOKAN

D-RYOKAN Myogadani Korakuen is a 9-minute walk from Myogadani Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. The main gate is a 7-minute walk from Komagome Station. One change, and roughly ten minutes on the train.

Leave the garden when it closes at 8:30 p.m. and you can be back with us a little after 9:00 p.m. Full directions are on our access page.
